One of the main areas of focus for Learning Centres is the concept of lifelong learning. In the current culture of rapid social & economic change, it makes sense to ensure that you have the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to deal with new situations and opportunities, however, many people are wary of trying something new, there is often a fear of failure or perhaps their experience of school was not a positive one. For whatever reason, a recent poll indicated that 50% of the workforce say nothing would persuade them to take up learning. It may be true to say that in the past, training and education were sometimes seen merely as a means to an end. Education has been traditionally viewed as a purely classroom based event for the intellectually minded. In today's enlightened times, people are waking up to the fact that there is a great deal of satisfaction to be gained by everyone in society from learning something new, or upgrading new skills. Learning can be very rewarding, (not just financially by improving job prospects) but it can provide you with a sense of achievement, social interaction and can often be good fun. You only need to look at the number of retired people who have never studied before going on to achieve university degrees! Whatever your interests, age, experience or academic level there is something available that can and will give you a sense of achievement and satisfaction. |
