Welcome to the RAF Cranwell Learning Centre

 

The Learning Centre at RAF Cranwell is situated in building 308, formerly the old Sgt's Mess. The Centre offers a wide variety of courses, further education information, and advice on other learning opportunities. It is available to all station personnel whether Service, MOD Civilian, Dependant or Contractor.

The aim of the Centre is to offer what you, the customer wants. If there is enough interest in a subject, our aim will be to see if we can offer it.

We are a regional centre for both Defence Management Training and the Department of Specialist Management Training. The courses offered by both departments can be found in their individual brochures. More detailed information can be obtained by contacting the departments directly or by speaking to the Learning Centre staff. All courses are open to both Service personnel and MOD Civilians.

The Centre can offer advice and guidance on all aspects of personal development, from general enquiries to individual's specific needs. Within the Learning Centre we can give information on the following:

-Local Guidance Services and Networks

The centre has a 24hr IT suite and is available for general use, details on how to get your access pass can be obtained by contacting the centre staff.

There will be a number of courses running in the centre from the start of September which are listed below.

Evening Classes starting September 2001
in the Regional Training Centre

The following courses are due to be held in the Regional Training Centre from September 2001, subject to numbers.

Spanish for Beginners Tutor: Agustina Jenkinson
This is course for absolute beginners. Learning key phrases and expressions will enable you to understand and communicate in Spanish and the emphasis will be on giving you the confidence to speak the language in Spanish speaking countries. The course book in 'Breakthrough Spanish 1' published by McMillan and copies will be available for purchase at the first class meeting.

Held: Mondays (5.15pm-6.45pm) Starts: 17 September for 22 weeks Cost: £66.00

GCSE Spanish Tutor: Agustina Jenkinson
This course is for those with some knowledge of the language and who have completed the equivalent of at least a one year evening course. Listening, reading, speaking and writing in Spanish following the short course syllabus of the OCR Examining Board. The course book is 'Iexito' by Young, Cosgrove & O'sullivan published by Hodder & Stoughton and copies will be available at the first class meeting.

GCSE Law Tutor: Glynis Dean
This interesting and useful course will follow the syllabus of the AQA Examining Board and covers the nature of law in society, legal institutions, modern sources of English law and the prosecution process.

Held: Tuesdays (5.30pm-7.15pm) Starts: 18 September for 28 weeks Cost: £60.00

GCSE German Tutor: Sally Morris
This course is for those with a basic knowledge of German and follows the syllabus of the OCR Examining Board. It covers the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing German.

Held: Tuesdays (7.30pm-9.30pm) Starts: 18 September for 28 weeks Cost: £60.00

Conversational Arabic Tutor: Kevin Ross
This course is for beginners. Learning to speak and understand Arabic, enabling you to converse with a native speaker in modern standard Arabic.

Held: Wednesdays (5.15pm-6.45pm) Starts: 3 October for 20 weeks Cost: £60.00

GCSE Psychology Tutor: Rebecca Morland
A fascinating course following the syllabus of the AQA Examining Board. It will include ways of explaining human behaviour, methods used in psychological studies and development of personality.

Held: Wednesdays (7pm-9pm) Starts: 19 September for 22 weeks Cost: £66.00

We are also planning to run the City & Guilds 7307 (Further and Adult Education Teacher's Certificate). Confirmation of dates, times and cost are still awaited, however Part I is due to start September for five weeks, two nights a week. It is envisaged that Part II will run straight after and go through until June 02. The approximate costs will be £90 and £100 respectively.

For those who may be interested, there is the possibility of running a GCSE English and Mathematics and A/O General Paper pre exam study courses in October. These will be roughly a week long and run during the day. Again, dates, times and cost are still to be agreed. There will be a registration day held in the Regional Training Centre on Monday 10 September between 10am-1pm. If you wish to attend one of the afore mentioned courses, you must come and register and pay the course fee (CHEQUES ONLY) on this day.
