Welcome to the RAF High Wycombe Learning Centre

On behalf of the Learning Centre staff, welcome to the RAF High Wycombe learning page. The Centre was officially opened in March 2002 by the Stn Cdr, Wg Cdr S J Spence.
Resources have been enhanced, with ‘state-of-the-art’ IT equipment and an information room all in pleasant surroundings. The e-learning suite comprises of 8 Internet-connected i-desks which are available for use by all Stn Service personnel, their dependants, MOD civilians and long-term contractors.

The Learning Centre staff are on hand to answer any question you may have regarding educational and resettlement matters. We aim to provide learning facilities which will enhance your ability to take charge of, and succeed in, your own learning and personal development.

Interactive Learning Centre (ILC)

A wide range of courses on Information Technology subjects is on offer, some of which are listed below:

These courses are free to all station personnel. Just pick up the phone and ring 95221 7895 to book.

European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) Tutor-led Courses, Oxford College

If you prefer tutor-led courses, these are run by Oxford College and are studied on-site in Building 34. The courses are a popular way of enabling personnel to gain the 7 modules of the ECDL qualification. Enquiries and bookings are made by contacting the T&D Clerk on ext 6710.

Education

 

If you are interested in finding out more about courses at colleges in the local area, Defence Management Training (DMT), Forces Distance Learning Scheme (FDLS), Open University or the University Short Course Programme (USCP), please call in and browse our range of publications. Guidance interviews are available for Service personnel from the PLA on ext 7891 who will endeavour to help you find the right course.

We are an approved examination centre of the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) for selected IGCSE, GCSE O and A level subjects.

Standard Learning Credits (SLC)

Don’t forget to use your £175 SLC which is available to Service personnel each year to assist with up to 80% of approved course fees. Contact the PLA or REC to find out more.

Resettlement

Information and advice is available to Service personnel who are leaving the services.

Arrangements for 2 year and 9 month briefs and interviews with the Regional Resettlement Advisor (RRA) can be made, where any questions you may have regarding resettlement training and careers can also be answered. The REC will be happy to arrange interviews and give you further information.

Library

There is a small learning and resettlement library in the Learning Centre and books or tapes may be loaned out to station personnel. Please contact the PLA or REC if you wish to use this facility.

Events

The Learning Forces awards were presented by the Stn Cdr during 2002. The campaign for this year is underway, so if you are aware of deserving individuals please nominate them. More information is available from the Learning Centre staff.

Newsletter

A newsletter is published approximately twice a year with the second issue being available in October 2002, keeping you up to date with local learning news.
